MINTAILS CONTROLS THE LARGEST TAILINGS TREATMENT FACILITY IN THE WORLD. PRELIMINARY ESTIMATES INDICATE THAT THEORETICAL PRODUCTION OF APPROXIMATELY 144,000 OUNCES AU AND 2.4 MILLION POUNDS OF URANIUM (U3O8) PER ANNUM COULD BE POSSIBLE ONCE THE EXPANDED PLANT IS FULLY OPERATIONAL.

HVH HEAP LEACH OPERATION

As part of the assets acquired by Mintails through the merger with SGM, Mintails owns HVH Gold (Proprietary) Ltd (HVH). HVH operates a Heap Leach operation located on the East Rand near the town of Nigel. HVH, through an agreement with Holcim (South Africa) (Pty) Limited (Holcim), has the rights to process certain mineralised rock dumps located on the East Rand comprising approximately 14.4m tonnes of rock (5.56m treatable).

In heap leaching the waste rock, stockpiles are crushed and screened to liberate the oxidized material. The oxidized fractions are then combined with lime and delivered to the heap leach pad. The oversize fractions of rock are resold to Holcim, one of the largest suppliers of construction related materials in South Africa. Holcim owns and operates cement factories, ready mix plants and aggregate supply operations throughout South Africa.
