Mintails owns the rights to process and extract gold, uranium and sulphuric acid from extensive tailings resources located on the West and East Rand regions of South Africa's historic Witwatersrand Basin.  Mintails controls these rights in respect of over 330 million tonnes of slimes, sands and rock tailings materials, mainly located on South Africa's historic West Rand and from its 50% joint venture share in over 1.5 billion tonnes of slime tailing materials located on the East Rand.

MANAGEMENT

Dick van der Walt

CEO - Director - BLC, LLB, LLM

Dick was appointed Group CEO on 16 November 2005. He was born and educated in South Africa and holds BLC and LLB Degrees in Law from University of Pretoria and LLM - Masters Degree in Law from the University of South Africa. Dick van der Walt's background in law and investment banking has provided him with requisite skill and experience to confidently oversee and implement Mintails strategic goals. Dick has personally ensured that the company has been successfully able to negotiate and satisfy its obligations under South African Mining Law and the prevailing Black Economic Empowerment Code of Practice.

Basie Maree

Group Executive - Operations - Director - NDT Extraction Metallurgy, B.Tech Environmental Management, MDP, EDP

Mr Basie Maree was appointed Group Executive-Operations, on 3 March 2008 and was appointed to the Board in April 2008.

Basie Maree started his career in Anglo American in January 1977, and remained in the Gold and Uranium Division, later branded as AngloGold AShanti, until he joined Mintails after 31 years service.

Basie Maree has worked at all technical and managerial levels in AngloGold Ashanti in the Metallurgical field and was promoted to Consulting Metallurgist in 1997 and later to Head of Metallurgy.

Basie Maree qualified as a Metallurgist in 1980 with a National Diploma in Extraction Metallurgy and obtained a B.Tech Degree in Environmental Management (Cum Laude) in 2001.

Basie Maree is registered with "The Engineering Council of South Africa" as a Professional Engineering Technologist and is also a director of the International Cyanide Management Institute.

Carina Morgan

Group Communication Manager - BA Communications; BA Hons. - Journalism Radio & Television, Marketing & Advertising, Communications & Public Relations

Carina Morgan joined the company on 1 July 2009. She has extensive experience in the corporate communications field, both in a corporate Mining environment and in the Press. With her wealth of experience in the industry, we look to bolster communication with all stakeholders with regular coverage through accurate and updated information reporting in both the electronic and print media, through website administration, press releases and articles.

Carina Morgan will, through various marketing initiatives and sponsored events provide stakeholders with fundamental insight to the Executive and Management of the Mintails Group.

Chris Robbertse

General Manager : Mogale Gold (Pty) Limited - National Higher Diploma Extraction Metallurgy (NHD)

Chris Robbertse is a Metallurgist and has joined the company on 1 July 2009 as General Manager of the Mogale Gold operation. Chris Robbertse is widely recognized as an industry expert in his field. With his vast mining experience of 32 years in gold and uranium operations, and having spent a significant portion of his career in the processing of tailings, his expertise will be focused on the successful commissioning and production of the mine.
